Peter Hauck

This is a photo of my Grandfather - Peter Hauck. Or is it my Great Grandfather? Anyone have any ideas??

Mac Family Tree

I was lucky enough to get to use my Christmas money to buy two awesome things.

The first was Mac Family Tree. It is not the greatest program (Reunion is better but I could not buy it any where) but it is pretty good. Does most of what I want. There are some simple things that it does not do that drives me nutty but...

The other thing was a new printer. It is awesome. It is an Epson Artisan 800 Printer. It let me scan old photos in and print new photos out. It is wireless and works great.

Martha Guckert

My Mom's auntie died this week. This obit was in the Medicine Hat Paper. She was 98 years old. This gives me more leads to help fill the blanks.

1910 ~ 2009

Mrs. Martha Guckert, beloved wife of the late Mr. Casmier Guckert, passed away peacefully at the Riverview Care Centre on Monday, January 12, 2009, at the age of 98 years. Martha was born in Kraswa, Saskatchewan on September 10, 1910, a daughter to Michael and Beaulah Wagner. She married Casmier Guckert and started their life as farmers. They farmed successfully in the Prelate and Kindersley areas before retiring to Medicine Hat. Her unconditional love and hospitality will be truly missed by all that were fortunate enough to have known her. It would be nearly impossible to find someone that enjoyed visiting and exchanging stories with her guests as much as she did. She gently touched the lives of so many with her genuine love of life itself throughout her long and wonderful years. Martha’s memory will be cherished by her daughters, Beaulah, Ione, Rose and Dianne; sons, Simon and Mike; she also enjoyed 26 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Katey and a brother, Len. She was predeceased by her husband, Casmier in 1977; a daughter, Anne in 1994 and brothers, Peter, Joe and Walter. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Father John L. Maes officiating. Immediately following, Martha will be reunited in eternity with her loving husband, Casmier, in the Roman Catholic section of Hillside Cemetery. (Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at www.cooksouthland.com) The family wish to extend many thanks to the staff at both the Valleyview and River View Care Centre for taking great care of Martha in her later years as well as to the very special family members that took care of all her needs at those facilities. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Martha’s name may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102 Crestwood Square One, 1865 Dunmore Road S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 1Z8. Christmas is coming

Christmas is coming and I am trying to get things back in order. Starting with a holiday theme for the blog. I am also hoping to get a copy of Mac Family Tree so that I can get cracking on my genealogy again. I only have a windows program for tracking people and don't have access to the windows machine - well it works but won't connect to the internet so it is really a useless machine.

Guckert, Pauline

Today I thought I would take a look at some books and try to find out some info about my Grandma.

I found that they came to USA from Konstantsa Romania on the SS Bremen. It was August 18, 1907 when they arrived.

Now I am off the www.ellisisland.com to see what they know.

Hauck and Guckert

I guess I will actually work on this side of the family for a while. I don't really have much at all. It seems a bit of a mystery to me. My Grandfather Peter Hauck came to Canada through the US. However, Who he travelled with is a mystery. Some say it was his stepmother, step brothers or half sister. Some say he came alone. So far I have no documented proof.

All I know of him is this: Born Peter Hauck 28 August 1889 in Odessa Russia
Died 28 June 1956 in Medicine Hat Alberta
He married Pauline Guckert 25 Nov 1913 in Fox Valley SK
His Mom could be named Ludgarda Runz and his stepmother was Barbara Feist
His dad is probably named John or Johann

I Hope some one can help me.
I am off to check some information.

Family Heritage

So I guess my first post will be WHY do I want this blog? I am hoping that this blog will help me get organized and hopefully connect with some family out there that I don't know or I know but have not spoke to in quite some time.

I have so much information on my Dad's side of the tree I am hoping to even it out abit and learn more about my Mom's side.

The Hauck side of my tree is pretty sparse so if you know something let me in on it. I will help you too.

Thanks
